In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh, who was on deputation as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. As part of an ED search team that conducted a raid at a jeweller's residence in Mumbai linked to a money laundering case involving a Chinese investment app, Singh demanded a Rs 20 lakh bribe from the jeweller following the raid. He threatened to arrest the jeweller's son if the bribe was not paid. The jeweller reported the incident to the CBI, leading to Singh's arrest in Delhi after he collected the money. Singh remains in jail custody, and a phone not registered in his name was seized during his arrest. The CBI had previously denied his bail application.
